Billie,
It
is important to submit to directories,
more important even high PR directories. Some directories are free, others require a fee for inclusion.
Here's a list of the most important free directories to submit to:
DMOZ The Open Source Directory is probably the most important directory to submit to. It index is used by Google and a host of other search engines, and inclusion there is a sure way of boosting your PR and rankings overnight. However, it takes an awful long time to get listed, so you have to be patient, but above all, abide by their submission guidlines.
Gimpsy If you choose the free submission option, you have to wait a minimum of 6 months to get listed! Paid inclusion $25 or $40.
Illumirate Formerly known as HotRate, inclusion is free, but you might need to sign up as an editor.
For paid inclusion, there are a host of directories:
Yahoo Xpress Submit at Yahoo! costs $299 per year.
Business.com $199 annual flat fee.
GoGuides Costs $69.95
JoeAntOne-time fee of $39.99
Inclusion in these directories is quite pricy, so if want to cut down on costs, I suggest you concentrate on the free directories listed above. Have also a look at this
list of directories ranked by PR. Some of them have quite a high PR and are free for inclusion.
