Default Does listing my website with directories help my ebusiness?

Hi there,

as mentioned in the title,
can anyone tell me how important is this?

And I think getting listed in directories require money too right?
In that case, how would I know if it's ever gonna be good?

I'm hoping to get everything doen at the minimum cost as I'm still slightly afraid to plunge in with all my savings, anyone?

Thanks,
Billie

Default Importance of Directory Submission

Billie,

It is important to submit to directories, more important even high PR directories. Some directories are free, others require a fee for inclusion.

Here's a list of the most important free directories to submit to:

DMOZ The Open Source Directory is probably the most important directory to submit to. It index is used by Google and a host of other search engines, and inclusion there is a sure way of boosting your PR and rankings overnight. However, it takes an awful long time to get listed, so you have to be patient, but above all, abide by their submission guidlines.

Gimpsy If you choose the free submission option, you have to wait a minimum of 6 months to get listed! Paid inclusion $25 or $40.

Illumirate Formerly known as HotRate, inclusion is free, but you might need to sign up as an editor.

For paid inclusion, there are a host of directories:

Yahoo Xpress Submit at Yahoo! costs $299 per year.
Business.com $199 annual flat fee.
GoGuides Costs $69.95
JoeAntOne-time fee of $39.99

Inclusion in these directories is quite pricy, so if want to cut down on costs, I suggest you concentrate on the free directories listed above. Have also a look at this list of directories ranked by PR. Some of them have quite a high PR and are free for inclusion.

Hi

Directories are a most important source of web PR. There are plenty of free ones out there but think carefully about your keyword/content. There are industry specific and general ones out there - try both. Do yr research and just browse a few for a couple of hours or so to get an idea of who they include and what they say about themselves. DMOZ is an ideal starting point good luck.

Directory listsings for non-specialised services, are very vague.I have listed my SME in various directories, but hardy done any business via them.Although it does hugely benefit people who offer services,in the mre visible categories. The idea is that if a user needs a servise less needed, why will he look for it in the directories.Plus the time it takes to find the same in a HUGe directory!

yeah no doubt Directory listing for non specialised service are not as important as specialized ones that is why they are provided for FREE. Also directories are a source of cheap and easy traffic Though they dont provide much of the traffic
