Using Overture for keyword research

Just thought I'd share something useful today for the newbies here,
while there are many ways to look for hot ideas online, i'd never part from good keyword searches.

The most simple and FREE one I'd recommend here is the service offered by Yahoo! Inc.

Just go to inventory.overture.com and you'll be greeted with a "keyword search engine"

now what happens here is, you type a certain keyword there, and they'll displace the number of times that specific keyword has been typed into the Yahoo! search engine for the previous month. It also displays other searches related with your keywords and shows you how many times those similar keywords have been searched! Cool eh, so what's next?

you basically go back to Yahoo!'s home page and search for the exact keyword again, see how many "competitors" you have (usually found under the sponsored links)

so, there you go, while Yahoo! is not the only search engine available, a basic but pretty accurate way to tell how many times that phrase of keywords have been searched all over the Internet would be to take the overture results, and multiply it by three times, so if overture shows you 100,000, it's basically 300,000 searches including all other search engines

so, know your keywords, you never know, a slight change in keywords might result in huge differences to your results/profits

Overture term suggestion tool is indeed a nifty tool to do keyword search to find a niche market.

There's just one little caveat. Overture tends to lump together singulars and plurals. For example, "blue widget" is a combination of "blue widget" and "blue widgets". As such, you should bear in mind that the number of searches is somehow inflated.

Use in conjunction with Google Adwords' suggestion tool and WordTracker to get a better idea of the popularity of search terms / keywords.

another good tool is http://www.wordtracker.com/free-trial.html If you use it ongoing you have to pay, but try out trial and it is pretty current . It complies reports telling you what competing sites are using those keywords and how often poeple search those keywords

They can be highly inaccurate when compared to the actual number of searches performed for particular keywords. The tools will help you to select which terms to target, but they won't help you accurately predict the amount of traffic you can achieve from using those keywords. For that information, you can use programs from Google's AdWords and Yahoo! Search Marketing.

WordTracker and Overture also have other limitations of which you need to be aware. WordTracker separates terms and phrases by capitalization, plurality and word ordering. Overture does not.
Plurals do sometimes deliver different results in the search engines.

inventory is good for real newbies who don't want to spend a dime on these things, usually, newbies restrict their budget too much, and too unwiling to spend on learning and research, this would ultimately lead to a situation where if they do get a little success, they'll spend more and more and more eventually,

but success rates are not THAT high for those who restrict their budet limit too much, unless they're lucky enuff to find the right places to elarn, they're bound to lose a lot of time and effort, and eventually rule out e-commerce as a source of income for themselves
