Default Link development tips and tricks

Links from goverment & authority pages can significaly raise PR (Page Rank) of your site.
Of course it is not so easy to make them directly link to your site.

Here you can use one trick:

Find site that has authority links going to it, and try to get them to link to you.
Good examples are 501c sites (nonprofit charity sites). They are commonly linked to by goverment/authority sites. Use link from sites whose PR is 5 or higher. Do whatever it takes (make donation or some other arangement) to get link from them.

Tip:
- Type in Google: " link:www.XYZsite.com" to get information where that site get his incoming links

Let me hear yours tips&tricks...

Finding quality placements of links take hard work, time and commitment, but with the right focus you’ll be on your way. Use all the major search engines and search for sites that constantly appear on all major engines with a high listing. Go through the sites thoroughly they may be a missing a whole section of information that your site caters to.
Or their site may have information that relates to what you sell. Contact them and see if they allow for an external link to be placed on their site. Praise them in their email, telling them that you find their site resourceful and informative (be truthful) and that their visitors would benefit form your store.

Give them all the information they would need to add a link. Include the html. Keep them updated on your site through regular emails (not too regular) If they include the link. Thank them. Basically break down the barrier and make a personal connection, that’s the difference between a successful business person and an average one. even more so on the internet.

Excellent thinking out of the box Backstage. I never imagined I could get a link from authoritative websites the way you so eloquently put it.

You actually got me thinking about syndicating your articles with a twist. Instead of just writing and submitting in bulk to Article directories, one could locate authoritative websites and see if they have any syndicated columns relating to your niche. One should obviously spend a lot of time and effort into crafting a really original and enticing copy to grab attention. An article approved this way is much better than 100's submitted to a bench of article directories, both in PR and visitor referrals.

On a side note, I've submitted close to 100 articles to article directories and all I got in visitor referrals is a massive - ahem - 5 visitors for the whole month of June!

Default Link Development Tips

Here are some more tips that I found on the web

Link development is essential to a successful SEO campaign. The main disadvantage is it takes time, whereas paid search advertising (in Google, Overture, FindWhat, etc.) results are nearly instantaneous.

Link development's main advantage is dynamic, cumulative, and difficult to imitate. Many sites maintain search engine visibility and the resulting qualified traffic because of successful link development, not just based on the number of keywords on a page.

Some link development tactics we commonly use:

Choose quality over quantity. Link quality carries more weight than quantity. Spend time getting the highest quality links pointing to your site. One of search engine spammers' biggest sales pitches is, "Get millions of links to your site." Don't fall for that arcane, useless pitch.

Begin with Web directories. Yahoo Directory and Business.com are two reliable places for high-quality links. Both require annual submission fees. If their links don't positively affect your site's link development, don't renew.

Harness online publicity. How-to tips, helpful articles, even useful press releases often garner links from other Web sites. Publicity is usually part of a company's overall marketing plan, so harnessing these resources for link development can be a simple task.

Use blogs and forums wisely. Blogs and forums can call attention to useful information on your own site.

Use search engines to research link development. Look at competitors' sites to determine their link development strategy. It can help you with your own. What newspapers and media outlets do they use for online publicity? What Web directories link to their sites? No link popularity checker ("link:domain.com" in Google, "linkdomain:domain.com" in Yahoo) can substitute for doing the research yourself.
