Default Spam email issues

My market is gap year students and long term travelers the majority already overseas so they are almost all using a webmail. I’d like to keep past clients informed via e-newsletter/special offers. As I haven’t yet got an opt in clause on the site for receiving email marketing is this likely to be construed as spam and will it also get delivered direct to the webmail junk folder.

Email marketing without opt-in confirmation can very easily be construed for spam. Consumers have consistent views about what constitutes spam: unknown senders, frequency and irrelevancy. If they have not granted you permission to receive these emails then they might as well consider the subject of your emails irrelevant, and not recognise who you are.

I suggest you offer both opt-in and opt-out options in all your email marketing compaigns. [/b]

Many email marketing campaigns I receive state something like ‘you are receiving this because you subscribed…” and then the opt-out info. I don’t know the exact wording but many times people forget to what they subscribed or consented to receive on the internet, so that little reminder below just jogs the consumers memory that this is in fact not spam.
