Default Patenting an e-business idea

Is it possible to patent an ebusiness idea? A friend has a unique online payment idea that Ive not seen anywhere else. As this is not a tangible product can his idea be protected in any way?

Yes i think it is quite possible to patent the idea on the internet as there are numerous agencies now that protect your copyrights . also the demographics play an important role here as where you live might decide how effective this might be . I think if you live in US , this might be much easier there as there are intenet laws there . many of the asian countries like india r atill to have any kind of regulation on the internet .
