Default How does yahoo rate sites?

I was wondering how yahoo rates their sites? I mean I have heard that google does it one way with like traffic flow and relevancy, and various other criteria but how does yahoo do it?

If they have different criteria than google how do I optimize my website to get maximum traffic flow with two different criteria basis.

Also, if I had to optimize my website for a particular search engine which would you all recommend to optimize for yahoo or google?

Thanks for your help.

It's pretty difficult to pin down the (ranking) algorithm running behind different search engines. You could have a page rank well in Google, but fare abysmally in Yahoo. Equally, your ranking can differ in the SERP of the same search engine.

The best thing to do is to keep doing what search engines like best:

* fresh content on your websites at frequent intervals
* get high-quality links from authoritative websites

Over time, this should do the trick and you should climb up the SERP ladder. Remember that patience is key, so just keep at it and it will eventually pay off.

The key to getting a high ranking in the search engines is to keep adding keyword rich, relevant content to your website regularly. If you are updating your site all the time, the search engines will know they need to come back and spider it all the time.

There are a lot of different SEO (which stands for Search Engine Optimization) tricks, tips, and tactics out there right now. Some of them work, but most are giant wastes of time for the benefit provided.

Sadly, a few will actually demolish your rankings and worse yet, if you use a couple of the "tricks" I've seen for increasing your ranking in Yahoo you can count on your site being banned outright (ouch).

the more you try to achieve SEO unnaturally, the worst your rankings are gonna become.

usually, that's the case

all yuou need is to pick a search engine you wanna optimize for, go thru the search engine's guidelines, and follow as closely as possible, through natural ways, not unnatural ones

trust me on this, in the long run, you'll know what i mean, if you need to make some quick bucks, there's plenty of other ways you can try, but seo for long term, sheesh, go natural, and you're likely to achieve success in the end

find a reliable company to help you on this, not those who promise you no 1 position in a dat

Also :
Yahoo! values keywords in the URL more than any other engine.
If it is in the domain name, even better.
If the domain doesn't contain the main keyword, try with a sub page and get incoming links to it.

the rating you guys are talking about, is this what it means to be on top of the searche engines?

like one user types in "website" in yahoo's search engine and then top sites that comes out are ranked tops???

Well yahoo , I have read at so many places that they most importance to content than anything else than links . The first, and most pertinent point is that Yahoo judges content to be the most important factor in their algorithms. They do still consider inbound links and other factors but they are attuned to the way of the content site and they love sites that provide keyword-optimized content in large mass. While that may make it sound easier than concentrating on generating a huge base of inbound links as you would for Google, Yahoo optimization presents its own challenges and its own unique quirks that you should consider.
