Negative keywords prevent your website’s listing being shown inappropriately. Some may think who cares at least my site is getting visited, but if you are using a service like goggle ad words where you pay for every click, you want to make sure that every lead is targeted and not going to waste your money.
So basically you get to choose what keyword will not be associated with your website. To do this (designate a word or phrase not be linked to your site) when you are typing your keyword you add “-“before the word.
An example is just say your website sells those world globes, but everytime someone types in golden globes into the search engine, they get a listing for your site. That’s a wasted visit to your site (if you have a click-thu) so you just type a negative symbol before the keyword and your done.

Google Adword and Negative Keywords
When running a Google AdWords campaign, it is crucial to include negative keywords. This is particularly true if any of the keyword phrases in the ad campaign are broad- or phrase-matched. Negative keywords cause an ad to not be shown if any of the keywords are in the search phrase. This is important for a few reasons.
First, because the ad will not be shown for keyword phrases that are not relevant, there will be fewer click throughs that do not convert to sales.
Second, the overall CTR (click through rate) will be higher because there will be fewer instances of searchers viewing the ad but not clicking. The higher CTR will cause the ad to attain a higher position without requiring a higher CPC (cost per click).

Forbidden Keywords:
There is no such thing as a list of forbidden keywords that search engines match against while performing a search. If there were, then it would be simple; you would know which words are unacceptable.
If you try to perform a search (not a safe search, just a search) using as keywords some vulgar expressions you will retrieve an amazing number of search results. Of course, if you use any filtering software that prevents you from getting vulgar results, you will not have the chance to visit these sites, but this is not the point.
The point is that, while there are no officially announced mechanisms that search engines use for filtering inappropriate keywords, there is enough room for censorship and manipulation of any kind.
Politically incorrect keywords, for example, are another often discriminated-against category of search keywords. Well known are the censorship/filtering issues in China, Saudi Arabia, and North Korea. The so-called “Great China Firewall” encompassed thousands of keywords that, when found on a page, prevented it from opening.

Phrase and broad match are excellent tools to use in an AdWords campaign to help you receive exposure on all the niche keywords associated with your products & services. However, there are often a large variety of phrases you don't want your ads to be shown for. This is where building a negative keyword list can improve your CTR, increase your relevancy, and increase your ROI as your not paying for clicks you don't really want.

So, once you've build a negative keyword list, you upload to the site, and whenever people search for these keywords, your site will appear or won't appear???
i'm really confused now

Your site will NOT appear. Therefore you will not have to pay per click!
