Customer reviews
A nice idea implementing in many stores is offering the chance for customers to offer their product reviews. This is especially useful in book and cd stores as it is the best form of promotion ‘word-of-mouth.’ Encourage customers to leave their reviews, Of course you can moderate this if you get a review which you think will do you more harm than good, however leaving it on their, shows that you value your customer’s opinions.

I think what she meant was that when you offer your customers to post up their personal reviews, other customers can find out more about a certain product before deciding to buy the product.
This is very true netgal as I myself too, read a lot of reviews before I make a decision. Pretty fussy with my buying decisions, I usually check out a few high traffic review sites before finally deciding to buy a specific model of a product. I call this product research. CDs and DVDs are not that difficult, as there are not many different versions.

Sorry I should have explained myself better, but that is what I meant. Customer are not able to physically try out your product (read a bit of the book, ask the sales assistant to listen to a cd) so all they have to go on is you product description and what customers who have purchased the product already thinks of it. Stores like Amazon do this and its really helpful for fussy shoppers like myself.

You can establish a contact with people who already bought your product or used your services.
This way , you can find out what are the possible problems with your products( services) and if there are no problems , you will earn respect from your customers and they will surely " spread the word" about you giving you free viral marketing.

yeah, viral marketing works,
look at myspace.com
look at friendster.com
and mamny more other good examples,
the essence of viral marketing is that when you offer something nice and your visitors/members love it, they'll start telling their friends about it,
the mother of advertising, mouth-to-mouth advertising - it works!!

Are these "reviews" the same as these "testimonials"?

Customer reviews are a good way to increase the trust of your website or business . If you offer customer reviews of the products you promote you accomplish this and more. Not only is the subject matter on target, but the reviews themselves promote the products for you. There is nothing inherently difficult about putting customer reviews on your site today. It does take a little time to set things up, but low-cost commercial quality reviewing applications are available to do the bulk of the work .
