Default Directories are obsolete?
Are they really obsolete?
Here are some pointers that they are :
- we have better search technology
- people are far better at surfing the web than they used to be
- it is getting easier for people to find what they need online through a search engine, because dial up connections are the fastest they’ve ever been, and w more and more people are moving to broadband internet - people get to spend more time searching and less time waiting.

i won't say they're obsolete, in fact, i think they never will be obsolete, not in the next ten years at least

Directories will never become obsolete. The biggest example is Dmoz.org

Can you imagine Dmoz.org may be stopped or changed to something other theme site? NEVER.

Directories have there own importance. They provide a combined place to get similar kind of sites.

they provide (sometimes anyway) pages of unique content in the form of descriptions in related categories so i think they are still a powerful resource
