Default What is seo or search engine optimisation?

I have wondered what this is al about. Recently I was able to get some simple answers while browsing the internet from a site. I saved the contents and not the site. However, the article is as follows: QUOTE: I wish to share this with everyone. SEO, as stated, stands for search engine optimisation. There are many forms of "SEO", but there's basically two main things that are needed to remember when finding out what Search Engine Optimisation actually is, or how to go about optimising websites
2 Factors to Search Engine Optimisation
The 2 main factors to search engine optimisation are on page and off page optimisation. Sounds simple? Well..there's a lot needed to learn about each. On page optimisation consists of many factors. These can include meta optimisation, title optimisation, keyword research and analysis, competitor research and analysis, body text optimisation, just to name a few.
Off page optimisation, also known as "off site" optimisation, is doing work on a site that will help it search engine wise, but does not actually require any modification to the site. This could be things such as building links to the site, writing articles about the site, press releases, marketing, ppc management, and many other factors.
Which is more effective for Search Engine Optimisation?
To be fair, theres no right or wrong way to go about this. On page and off page optimisation, are both done and needed as part of a successful seo campaign. On page optimisation is important to make sure that when your site does get crawled (viewed by search engine spiders), that they pick up what you want them to pick up, theres important and good content on pages that is fresh, and your page is actually about what your titles and meta information say its about.
Off page optimisation, is mostly to do with getting links back to your site. Search Engine's such as Google love to rank sites with more backlinks, with desired anchor text links to their website back to them. Its important to find a good balance between on and off page website optimisation. This is in order to get the best results for your site, and make sure you have "all angles covered". Search Engine Optimisation is a tricky business, but its certainly never too late to learn. UNQUOTE.

As I said earlier, I had just copied the material and save it and not the site. You may be able to browse the web and I am sure you will come accross this article. I did it recently and I came accross it while browsing and not by visiting a targeted web site.

happydix, "optimization" is American English. However, according to UK English it is "Optimisation" and the 's' is pronunced as 'z'

Colour = UK English
Color = American English

I studied UK English and hence you will notice this in all my writing. I hope you will understand this.

Short for search engine optimization, the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site.
SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

Numerous SEO techniques are there which can make any newbie confused .Most search engines store more than just the word and URL. An engine might store the number of times that the word appears on a page. The engine might assign a weight to each entry, with increasing values assigned to words as they appear near the top of the document, in sub-headings, in links, in the meta tags or in the title of the page. Most search engines have a different formula for assigning weight to the words in its index. This is one of the reasons that a search for the same word on different search engines will produce different lists, with the pages presented in different orders. With so many websites on the internet, knowing website optimization is very important.
