Yeah, that's true, I never thought of the fact that you are saving them money. I try to freelance in my freetime so I don't know if I really need it or not. I plan to get it when i start a "business" in a few months. I got a couple friends who can translate, photoshop, and occasional flash. I will pay them to do stuff or me, then I send it back. So I'm basically getting paid to do nothing. But yes, I suppose you are right about the gold member, it probably gives more of a reason to get hired, and is really helpful if you freelance alot. I do a maximum or 5-10 projects per month. Maybe less. Do you usually freelance alot hassen1

I have a lot of free time. So I try to do freelance - but I am very choosy. I accept only if I find the offer is good. It's not worth tiring youself to get peanuts.
I saw today, one service buyer is offering 0.07 US for a posting. A servive provider is saying he will do it at 0.05 US. Two US cents less than the price the service provider is willing to offer! Can you imagine this? I don't do that. I always tell the chap that this is my price. If you like it, it's fine. You wil get a perfect job done. If not - no hard feelings! Cheap things are n good and good things are no cheap - Chinese saying! So is good service.
Also remember that you are taking a risk. What if the guy doesn't pay you? So, you have to take int account the risk factor as well.
I saw another ad yesterday for a certain posting. The first bid reads "can u kindly pay me for the posts that i made already for u." I'm sure there's something fishy here! They guy hasn't paid the earlier service provider but is seeking for a new.
So, watch out and don't be fooled!

Yes, that is true. I usually will go down to $25 if its not too much work, and also if the other providers are bidding $30. Recently, I got a job to write 8 articles about a video game that just came out. One of them, being a review. So, the guy told me he needed it back in 3 days. I read his feedback and one person left him a one. He told me to send the article in batches. I sent the first 3 yesterday. He never officially chose me, so I wasn't sure if he was hiring me or not. He said, "I need you to write these in 8 days, please send it in batches, its really urgent plz." The guy seemed like he wasn't going to pay me. So I told him, I'll send the others when I get a response from you, then he never responded.
It was pretty frustrating to do all that and not get any response whatsoever, after he said he was choosing me. So yes, you must be careful if they pay or not. Usually they will pay, but once in a while there is a bad apple in the tree. I wish there was some way to stop this.

astros99, what I suspect is that these are guys who launch websites to earn money. So their site is on a pay per clisk business. They need article to fill their site. So they hunt for gullible people like us and they flee. No one to report to. No where to catch them! I have got caught enogh and more. So I don't touch articles unless they are well paid. There are offers US$ 150/- for 120 articles of 500+ words! Any takes, yes! A person from India bids 120 US for 120 articles! Can you beleive it?

Woah!!!
I bet that guy would just copy n paste most of his texts, add in a bit here n there, and sell it 1 buck a piece!
And plus, due to the currency exchange rates and such, he won't feel that he's underpaid i think

I guess you are right, humpty. If he was a genuine writer he won't be prostituting his articles for such rates!

The thing is that every time I bid there's always some guy that will bid below me. But its true, if his work was really going to be genuine he wouldn't be bidding that. Right now, I'm content with not writing because I have 3 steady free lancing jobs which can pay about like $300 per month if all can go as planned.

Low rate is a big challenge to freelancers

I can understand why there are bidders who lower their rate in order just to win the clients. Take note, these bidders are after earning impressive credentials. Of course, it is impractical to accept such freelance jobs with unreasonable rate.
Mind you, the currency rate exchange is a factor. Probably, in Asian countries like India and the Philippines #3 is quite good, which is equivalent to 150 pesos.

However, a genuine writer would not accept such rate, especially if s/he knew his/her potentials and considering that writing requires much of style, research input, power of words, time, and not just a big joke or simple task. Writing gives soul to any write ups.
Budding writers may start with lower rates. They can humble themselves. Anyway, accepting unreasonable rates depends upon the writer.

There are writers who practice copying from the Net and pasting on MS Word. That makes a job easier; yet the credibility of the write is put at stake. If you are writer, are you going to do the easy short-cut of copying and pasting? With today's software that detest plagiarism, such practice has no room in freelancer's jobs.

Well the conversion rate for the currency is really screwing some freelancers over. Especially the ones from US. A US dollar might be alot in other places, but it isn't really that much here. Like I said, a person from another country will work at like less than $3 an article but for us thats a really low price. So if the buyer doesn't want to pay as much, then he can get the other person to write in. In that case, we're losing out..

maybe i should join in, but the US 10 bucks is almost 40 bucks in my country's currency

That's the advantage foreign people have. Yall can charge less, and it's better for the buyer. So the only buyers that we're truly going to win are the ones that don't care about the pay, but just want quality work. Most of the people on GAF would prefer to pay lower, so I guess the foreign countries have a really big advantage over the US freelancers.

i think the internet made a good highway for people in countries where the currency exchange rate is low
perhaps people from US should consider migrating to these countries and live like kings and queens hahahaha

Ok, what about sample articles. They wants you to provide sample when you bid. So from there alone, they must have a lot of articles gathered already. Isn't that kinda robbery too?

Yeah, I've noticed a trend in the sample thing. If they ask for samples, they might not even choose you, but now they have your work. But not much you can do, cause if it's for writing, they'll want to see previous work. When it's a logo or something, you can watermark it and your good, but you can't with writing. If only there was a way to make sure your writing couldn't get stolen...

Cheap things are no good and good things are no cheap, absolutely true . I have also seen service buyers who tell you to do a massive task in such a short time and also with complete accuracy , and the problem with them is the etremely low price that they want tp pay and why providers bid on doing that . It is like doing a months job in 10 days and still getting far less than what you can make in a month .
