Perfect competitor for ebay?

There are lots of smaller places - BidVille, Wagglepop - but the problem is these places just aren't pulling in the traffic that eBay does - and we all know traffic to the hosted sites is needed to be successful. Without that traffic I can see sellers with low volume and cheaper items trying out some of the other options.

Its interesting because uBid recently acquired BidVille. I do see potential for BidVille to land in as the second alternative - but only IF uBid actually decides to invest in marketing and promoting this as their 'consumer-to-consumer' marketplace. It could be worth watching over the next year should they start working on it.

These people need to offer something that Ebay doesn't. I think that will put them ahead easily. Let's say they have a week or two of no service charges. Many of the sellers will like that and sell there. Maybe they will also post ads themselves to buy from them on THAT website, not Ebay. In the near future, I don't see anyone competing with ebay, but I would love to see that happen.

astros99 Do you know, they will even hire people to post ads! I think that’s how they will make the sites popular. May be they will eventually succeed. This is cyber business. It's not what we see at home!

No, I actually didn't know that. But what auction websites have we heard of besides Ebay. The only other one I think that is even close to competing is Amazon and Yahoo Auctions. Still, I don't think they are REAL threats to taking over Ebay. You have to see it from a customers point of view. What would it take to attract them to they're auction website. Lower prices than Ebay..I guess.

I think ebay wont have a competotor as equal as it is because not only it provides auctions , it covers almost every aspect of shopping online , secondly , it is an old one in the business and it has evolved like anything . Also the fact that there is a ebay for ever country like ebay.in for exclusively india etc makes it jsut way ahead of many many in the business . basically it is much much bigger than all the competitors taht is why it is doing so well .
