Default What are paid inclusion engines?

Well the topic is pretty much the title. I was just wondering what a paid inclusion engline is. I'm guessing once again it has something to do with E-business, and once again I am completely clueless about this topic. What are the benefits of Paid Inclusion engines and what exactly does it do. What are the downsides to it also?

well, in a nutshell, many websites have "directories" and once you click on a certain directory, it displays lists of companies/services/products offering something in that directory's category, more like yellow pages,

so, if you want to get your company/products/services listed there as well, you gotta pay a fee to the person behind the website,

you get the picture?

Yeah, that makes alot more sense now. Before I was completely clueless. Are there any popular names that most people would recognize as paid inclusion engines? Are these like the things when you search Google or Yahoo the hits at the VERY top (the ones that are even before the search results). Like they'll say BUY this or buy that. If thats what it is, then yeah I understand. Wow, I'd imagine that's pretty expensive.
