Default Online marketing and the law

One of the most valuable resources for an Internet marketer is a legal staff that understands online risks and changes. A number of strategic marketing decisions have legal consequences. Even a simple commerce Web site can have a legal impact. One of the virtues of going online is the sudden exposure to a global base of customers. At the same time, this exposes a company to a possible global set of laws, penalties, and legal risks.
According to my source, strategic Web decisions occur infrequently, with time for consultation with business partners and lawyers. Even though legal counsel should be consulted, knowing some of the basic legal issues is critical for understanding major online marketing decisions. Choices that make very good business sense might be ill-advised due to their impact on such legal issues as personal jurisdiction, taxes, privacy protection, and dealer contacts.

if that's the case, hmmmmm

it's getting more n more complicated than i thought,
suppose i have say a secret recipe for catching fish, so i sell it in ebay, n suppose i am successful tat i eventually open a store,

so the question is, should i already consult about all these legal issues before i even start listing my item in ebay?

Well, you may start up a business without consulting any legal representatives; but if you are uncertain of what business you are engaging onto - do consult legal advisors.

There are onlinebusiness entrepreneurs who can manage everything, and only from time to time do they just consult some of their friends about legality. Well, in your case, you may or you may not consult anyone considering that you can handle the odds.

Thank you. I have given you the freedom to use your own will whether or not to consult for legal bodies or not. I do not have the absolute knowledge about legal e-business issues. Yet, as I can still add, better to be certain that what you are doing are favorable in the terms and conditions implicated by any online business' contract.

Be cautious about your plans. Once uncertain seek for legal advice. :P

It is not about big or small websites , I think whereever e-commerce comes into picture and you are dealing with selling and purchasing or some content like music on your website legal issues like copyright do come into picture . Other people might hijack your search engine rankings and they might steal your web site visitors. The worst thing is that you might not even notice it.Imagine your domain URL is listed in search engine results on Google, MSN and Yahoo. In the search engine results, most people that click on your domain URL are sent to your website.
