Best os?

Recently I've heard alot of talk that Linux is better than Microsoft. They say that the advantages to Linux are that it is FREE. Many users don't like the price of Microsoft's product. Also, I hear that with Linux, it's impossible for you to get spyware. I don't get how they do that, but if that's true thats a BIG plus over Microsoft. So the question goes for those of you that have used another OS besides windows. What is the Best OS?

I still stick with XP as the best operating system . I think maily it is because of the interface andeasy to use system , that is why most of the computer systems all over use microsoft .
I do agree with the price thing , that they are somewhat costly but everything comes at a price only .
And about apyware , it is not that linux cant be infected with virus or spyware . Although Apple and Linux server worms (such as Lion) have been detected, their population is dwarfed by the proliferation of Windows-specific worms, viruses and Trojans. The main reason for this is that virus - and spyware authors - write malware for the most common platform.
