Employment
It's a sign of the internet's growing maturity that the defection of a senior executive to an internet start-up is no longer viewed with the same sort of surprise, indeed outright shock, which typically greeted such a move a few years ago. Business leaders today recognise that the internet is a serious force to be reckoned with and that some of their key managers may well be tempted to make a career in it. But given the number of internet start-ups looking for senior people to get their big idea off the ground, plus all the long-established companies embracing internet technologies in their own operations, personnel with the required experience and skills are, to say the least, thin on the ground, and the battle to attract them is intensifying.
