Default E-commerce law

The new law stipulates penalties of at least P100, 100 (Philippine currency) and a maximum amount commensurate to the damage of six months to three years, among others, for computer hacking, introduction of viruses and piracy of copyrighted work. Also, the law provides that violation of the Consumer Act or RA 7394 and other pertinent laws via transactions covered by or using electronic data messages or electronic documents shall be penalized with the same penalties as provided in those laws.

The law, which I am discussing here has also been practiced in Singapore and other countries. It is noteworthy that the National Police Force in our country has created a Computer Crimes Division to beef up physical law enforcement and specifically addressing crimes on the Web.

The rights are transferable by the owner who may license them, sell them, donate them to charity or even leave them to their heirs. According to the law, it is not legal to violate any of these rights, and if the owner of a copyright wins in a claim for copyright infringement,
