Using a DS as a remote!
Looks like Sony is not the only gaming mogul trying to improve connectivity between their handheld and their full-size console. You will soon be able to use the PSP as a PS3 remote. Sounds cool, huh?
This handheld to console connectivity effort is not singular, as today comes confirmation that Nintendo is planning to do something of that kind, with the DS and the Wii. According to MCV, Nintendo DS product manager James Honeywell revealed that Nintendo wants to improve connectivity between the Wii and the DS.
He mentioned that Nintendo's handheld-console connectivity efforts are not in any way similar to the competition (Sony) and that they plan to focus more on media capabilities, rather than the fun and interaction you get when you bring the two consoles together.
Honeywell also mentions the connectivity between Xbox 360 and PC, and explains his view on it: “The connectivity between Xbox 360 and PC is very much based in streaming video and other media. The link-up between Wii and DS will be much more about offering new forms of gameplay, fun and interaction. It will offer yet another new set of experiences for the whole family”. He also promises to reveal just how the DS and Wii will interact as soon as the project is finished. Apparently, this Wii and DS interoperability will be presented to the public next year if all goes well. As regarding the software which makes the two platforms connect, Honeywell says that they have several things in creation which they will bring to the market as soon as possible.
