IBM Holds 2006 Record for Patents Approved
Record breaking 173,772 patents approved last year (2006) and leading all companies is IBM Corporation with 3,651 patents, ahead of its second placer with almost 33%. For 14 years, IBM has been holding the top position. On the preceding year, no other company but IBM has exceeded 2,000 of patents approved.
On 2006, besides IBM, companies who have passed the 2,000 mark, contributing to the top record, are Samsung Electronics with 2,453 patents which came in second and Canon Incorporated with 2,378 in third place.
