An ambitious search engine, launched after the big players, but hoping to steal some of their market.
Teoma is an excellent new search engine that wants to challenge Google's throne. First unveiled as a test site in July last year, Teoma was later bought by Ask Jeeves and has now been fine tuned and officially opened for business. For each search query you input into Teoma, you are offered three types of results: Relevant web pages, ranked according to the number of relevant pages that link to them; Refine, a list of relevant categories to narrow your search; and Resources, a list of pages containing expert links. Teoma, Gaelic for expert, does not have as many web pages in its index as some other search engines, but for queries we submitted, the results were very comprehensive. However, results tended to be US-centric and you may need to add 'UK' to your search words. Teoma still has a long way to go before it can rival trusty Google, and is certainly not as quick, but it makes a useful second choice.
