Default Apple CEO Wants DRM Abolished

In an open letter published on the company website Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs has called for 'Digital Rights Management' to be scrapped and has called on consumers to pressure music labels on the issue. Jobs said that DRM is the only thing standing in the way of iTunes selling music which can be played on all portable players. "Convincing them to license their music to Apple and others DRM-free will create a truly interoperable music marketplace." He went on to say that consumers are accessing DRM free music anyway by ripping CDs or 'acquiring' music files. Research by Apple suggests that only 2.2% of the songs stored on an iPod are purchased from iTunes.

I’m surprise that it was 2.2% With all the piracy that is around, I thought it would be lower than that.

I agree with you, but the record companies aren't making billions and billions of dollars. Music is free, and no one (including me) is willing to pay so much .Apple is just trying to make more money by opening up the iTunes store downloads to all mp3 players. Something like that would really damage the industry, which makes A&R reps less risky, which makes all pop music more homogenized.
