Default Firefox 1.5 ending next month

I saw that there was an announcement made by Mozilla stating support for Firefox 1.5.0.X will end in late April. There was a security update recently released that included this information. The end date for support project for 1.5 is April 24, 2007. The Mozilla team feels that all users of 1.5 should switch to 2.0 to continue receiving updates.

For those of you that still use 1.5, like myself, you may have noticed in the past 24-48 hours, update 1.5.0.11 was released. Well, it's already starting to be let go. That update only included a patch for Firefox's FTP protocol.

This decision to take away support for Mozilla's 1.5 Firefox could become more of a task than expected. Even Microsoft pushes updates to Internet Explorer 6 evn though their new browser (version 7) gets the most attention from their staff. Companies that use Firefox 1.5 (and there are many) may have doubts about converting over to the new 2.0 in such a forceful way. Before a company uses new software, extensive research and testing is conducted to ensure it's stability. Doubt it? I know for a fact the United States Air Force made it mandatory in the end of 2004 for all their computers to convert from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. It took 3 years and a few months for that conversion to take place considering the release date of XP back in 2001. Of course browsers are a different breed than Operating Systems, but browser with poor security could do just as much damage as an O/S with security holes in it.

Soon we will see how this will turn out for home and business users.

Well firefox 2 is just out now and i have installed it .Despite Firefox's gains on Internet Explorer, Microsoft's head of Australian operations, Steve Vamos, stated in late 2004 that he did not see Firefox as a threat and that there was not significant demand for the feature set of Firefox among Microsoft's users. However, many features that distinguished Firefox from previous versions of Internet Explorer are now available with Internet Explorer 7.
