Finally the long awaited wireless wallet is now at work on the streets of Manila. Globe Telecom has launched a text-messaging service dubbed G-cash. It lets low income consumers to use a pre-paid card in their cell phones to send and receive cash, pay bills and make purchases at retail outlets. Now how cool is that?

How can a wireless carrier grow if most of its customers only make about $6 a day or less and use their mobiles only for texting? For Smart Communications the answer is an all digital telecom in a sachet. Retailers buy text messaging airtime in bulk from Smart and resell it for prices as low as 50 cents per packet. Now that is what I call ingenuity.
